GS Caltex opened a new chapter in Korea’s petroleum industry upon its inception in 1967 as the nation’s first private oil refinery.

Over the past 50 years, GS Caltex achieved impressive growth backed by bold investments in petroleum, lubricants and petrochemicals. While providing a stable supply of energy in the domestic market, we export more than 70% of our products to 50 countries.

In doing so, we have contributed to Korea’s economic development and its emergence as a major exporter of petroleum products. GS Caltex will continue growing in the fast-changing energy landscape with the launch of our olefin business. A mixed feed cracker (MFC) is under construction with completion targeted for 2021. Olefins will strengthen our global footing in petroleum as well as petrochemical products.

Petroleum

GS Caltex provides high-quality petroleum products from its oil refining facilities (daily capacity of 800,000 barrels) and desulfurization facilities for kerosene and diesel.

GS Caltex imports 80 types of crude oil from some 30 countries spread across the Middle East, US, Southeast Asia, Australia and Europe. Diversified sourcing ensures a stable supply. We produce high-quality petroleum products using our refining capacity of 800,000 barrels per day (bpd) and cutting-edge production systems that include facilities to desulfurize kerosene and diesel.

Additionally, heavy oil upgrading(HOU) facility, the largest in the nation, has a capacity of 275,000 bpd and produces light oil products and high-grade gasoline. It has brought GS Caltex a step closer to realizing a ‘perfect complex.’

Supplying Korea’s oil needs and exporting petroleum products

Our petroleum products provide a stable supply to satisfy home demands for industrial and transportation purposes across Korea. They are shipped to about 2,000 service stations, 330 filling stations, various factories, and railway and airline operators. (AS of the end of 2023)

GS Caltex is also a major exporter. We process crude oil imports into petroleum products which are exported around the world.

Learn more about Petroleum Products

Gasoline

Kixx includes a functional additive with high purity that protects the engine and keeps it clean. It vastly reduces harmful emissions to satisfy the most rigorous environmental standards, in addition to enhancing fuel efficiency and engine output. Kixx is low carbon product that delivers a smooth and quiet ride.

High-Grade Gasoline

Kixx PRIME is a premium gasoline product developed by GS Caltex. Having an octane number of 100, it greatly enhances a vehicle’s power and acceleration. On top of reduced noise and vibration, it provides superior fuel economy and engine protection. The result is outstanding performance and a comfortable driving experience.

Diesel

GS Caltex diesel products have superior ignition quality and output required by high-speed engines. They meet the highest global standards in terms of cetane number, lubricity, polycyclic aromatic content, and density. In addition to automobiles, diesel is used to power construction equipment, generators, turbines, industrial boilers and small ships (marine diesel fuel).

Kerosene

Kerosene from GS Caltex boasts high purity. Obtained via an advanced refining process, it is used for heating units such as fan heaters, rotary heaters and stoves. Its applications also span to agricultural dryers, glass and pottery kilns, and cooking burners.

LPG

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is clean and easy to use and has high thermal efficiency. As LPG is a colorless and odorless gas, an odorant has been added to enable quick detection in the event of a leak. LPG products offered by GS Caltex include propane and butane.

Jet Fuel

GS Caltex produces jet fuel for airplane jet turbine engines. Our products meet different requirements depending on whether they are for military or civilian use. Jet A-1 is used in civil aircraft, while JP-5 and JP-8 are for military planes. In times of emergency, JP-8 can also be used in vehicles and tanks powered by diesel.

Marine Fuel Oil

to maximize marine propulsion. The marine fuel oil is produced taking into consideration viscosity grades required by ship engines of various dimensions. It satisfies the ISO 8217 standard and reduces sulfur and other pollutants according to GS Caltex’s stringent internal standards.

Asphalt

GS Caltex produces top-quality asphalt using technology accumulated from continuing R&D. We started off with domestic shipments in 2000. Thanks to growing recognition of product quality, we also export asphalt to China and Southeast Asia. We have annual production capacity of 25,000 BD (domestic shipment: 8,000 BD, exports: 17,000 BD).

Heavy Fuel Oil

Heavy fuel oil is the blackish brown viscous fluid that remains after processing crude oil. GS Caltex produces bunker C (B-C) oil, which is mainly supplied for large industrial boilers. B-C oil has high caloric value and low prices but is difficult to handle.
